My name is Jacob Borgerding, a 25 year old West Texan proud to run for House District 71. For nearly a decade, I've worked in Abilene's restaurants-managing kitchens, waiting tables, and keeping my team employed through COVID with smart cuts. Losing my dad after a battle with cancer taught me grit, and running a kitchen honed my business sense; now, I'm ready to serve HD71 in Austin with a fresh, conservative approach.
I've served your families at the dinner table, now let me serve you at the Capitol. My focus is on practical solutions, not partisan noise, to build a stronger HD 71. Pledge $25 to support our district's future! Together we thrive!
Pillar #1
Ensuring Smart Spending
I’ll launch a thoughtful audit of Texas state spending to find efficiencies and redirect funds to our community. With $21.8 billion in corporate subsidies since 2015, we can recover $750 million through audits to support aquifer recharge, flood mitigation, and public schools—without raising taxes. Working with local leaders and modern tools, we’ll ensure every dollar benefits HD71 families. Let’s build a thriving district together!
Pillar #2
Fund Education with Medical Marijuana Revenue
Texas’s medical marijuana program could generate $1.1 billion annually by expanding access, funding K-12 education without new taxes or vouchers. In 2025, hemp sales hit $5.5 billion—imagine redirecting that to our 95% rural schools, reversing Abilene ISD’s $2 million cuts instead of losing more funds to the newly passed $1B voucher program. I’ll push for expanded medical use, ensuring local districts get resources for teachers and facilities—putting HD71’s power back in your hands!
Pillar# 3
Tax Relief for HD71
I’ll fight to cap property taxes at 2.5% in Taylor, Jones, Callahan, and Nolan counties, saving the average $150,000 home $300-$750 anually. With voter approval required for any increase, you’ll have a say—no more unchecked hikes. Funded through recovered funds from audits, this plan shields our $55K median income households from rate increases, all without new taxes. Let’s make HD71 more affordable for all through fair taxation!
Pillar #4
Mitigating Floods & Recharging the Seymour Aquifer
My $60M infrastructure plan will tackle floods and drought. Funded by audits with no new taxes, this plan builds 20 retention ponds and upgrades 20 choke points to cut our $8M annual flood damage by 50%, protecting homes. It recharges the Seymour Aquifer with 1,400-2,100 acre-feet/year using wells, filtration, and agroforestry, securing water for over 6,000 homes by 2028. Let’s unite to secure HD71’s water future together!
Stay tuned for sample bills detailing my specific legislative plans to deliver audits, fund public schools, cap taxes, and fund infrastucture—more details to be uploaded soon!
